For many fans of ABS-CBN, which used to be the Philippines largest network before their franchise ended, their star-studded Christmas Station ID is something to look forward to every December.

Their station ID is supposedly good only for the holiday season but many of what they produced in the past have become part of pop culture. Classics have come out of it, who can forget “Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko?” or “Ngayong Pasko Magniningning Ang Pilipino”?.

But now that the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) has issued a Cease and Desist Order (CDO) againts the network and with the latter’s subsequent shutdown starting evening of May 5, are we looking up at a Pasko that we won’t be hearing and seeing the ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID?

If the network’s franchise renewal will not be granted, then that could be a reality this coming 2020 holiday season.

COMPANY SONG TO POP CULTURE 

The themes of ABS CBN Christmas song usually highlights the major event(s) that the country and the Filipinos has faced for that year. Example the crowd favorite “Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko” is about looking up to Jesus for hope after the Ondoy flood onslaught and devastation. 

The emotions conveyed in the song speaks to the hearts of many Filipinos, hence, the station IDs become widely popular not only in the country but among the pinoys working and living abroad. 

One has only to go to Youtube to see the thousands and millions of hits that videos of  ABS CBN past Christmas stations IDs have generated, testament to their popularity.

This year, 2020, will there be a 12th installment of the station ID?

If ABS-CBN will come back on air after the NTC’s recent CDO order and if their franchise will be renewed this year by the Philippine Congress, then Paskong Pinoy believes that the theme for the 2020 Christmas Station ID that they will launch come December will be related to the heroes of Covid19 and the Kapamilya Network’s coming back on air.
